Sabarimala is famous for Lord Ayyappa which is the ancient piligrim place for the Hindu people. In Sabarimala Ayyappa temple was located on the 18 hills at an altitude of 1535 ft in the thick forest in Pathanamthitta Districton western Ghat mountains passing holy river Pamba a side. It is one of the famous temple in all Dharma Sastha Temple in Kerala and every year nearly more than 40 million devotees visited this temple from many places. From the month of November to January it is a piligrim season more number of devotees visited this Lord Ayyappa temple from various southern states when compare to the other seasons.

Most of the devotees before arrive Sabarimala to worship Ayyappa they fallow Vratham for 41 days which is called as Mandala Deeksha. During this period they wear plain black or saffron colour traditional cloths and taking only vegitarian food. All the devotees uses vehicals by a road way upto Pamba river and then following the mountain forest path 61 km from Erumely,8 km from Chalakayam and 12.8 km from Vadiperiyar. The routes are developed highly for the sake of the piligrims with consists of shops, hotels and provided medical facilities.

Starting from the month of November to end of January is a season for the piligrims to visit Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. ‘Mandala pooja’ and ‘Makaravilakku’ are the two major events held in this piligrim season. Sabarimala has no ristrictions of caste and religion, devotees not only from Hindu religion but also from other religions are also visit Ayyappa temple every year. The easiest way to reach the Ayyappa temple was Chalakayam which was on the bank of river Pamba and it has from 4km to 5km to reach the lord Ayyappa temple.
